Meet Kate Myall, your writing coach.

Headshot Kate Myall

I’ve made a career of helping others clarify their intentions and empower themselves through conversation and writing.

I know the impact of great writing, on the writer and the reader. It’s a process of cultivating confidence, clarity, creativity, and bravery.

And I know how sitting alone staring at a blank screen—or worse: the same old stale sentences—can drain you of any of that creative confident mojo.

And if English is not your first language, or even if it is but you haven’t made friends with all its tricks and glitches, this can be doubly frustrating.

I love this work. I’m so glad you’re here. Let’s talk. I want to know everything about you and help you piece together your story.

…Oh yes, but I’m supposed to be telling you about me. Here goes:

I graduated from Smith College with a degree in English Language & Literature and joined the staff of Bowdoin College soon after. I began by helping the college’s residential life staff develop and deliver creative and impactful programming for their peers, work that fed my love for connecting creatively with bright young community leaders. I then joined the offices of off-campus study and student fellowships, where I counseled thousands of students on study away plans and hundreds of students on competitive national fellowships.

I developed a passion for the Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship program, a highly competitive initiative funded by the US State Department to send recent graduates abroad to teach and connect with the world. In 2020, Bowdoin became the number one top Fulbright producing undergraduate institution in the US. This success, I believe, stemmed in no small part from the rigorous reflection, writing, and revision processes I helped guide students through.

After years of being inspired by my intrepid students, I decided to follow pursue my own extended international experience. In 2021 my husband and three young children agreed to move with me to Cholula, Mexico. In Cholula (google it!) I write, paint, cook, take pictures (all the images on this website are mine), study Spanish, and teach English to middle schoolers. I’m calling it my DIY Fulbright.

It’s also given me the time to cultivate WrenCo, a service I’ve been dreaming of for years. At WrenCo I hope to continue leveraging my expertise helping young adults write in a college setting, as well as finally working with professionals, creatives, retirees, and others from across the world. (See how I brought it back to you? I’m sneaky like that.)

“I’d like to hold a space for whatever writing you’re working on—an admissions essay, an artist’s statement, a cover letter, a love letter, a memoir, a monologue, text for your website, a text to your boo—and help you with any stage in the process, from conception and drafting through revision and completion of something that makes you proud.”
